Peregrine Falcons are fast-flying birds that hunt other birds in flight around cliffs, coasts, and city buildings across the United States. Their American populations recovered after pesticide restrictions and conservation work, and federal endangered-species listing ended in 1999.
A Merlin is much smaller, with a compact body and usually a weaker dark mark below the eye. A Peregrine looks larger and longer-winged, with a broad dark facial mark.
